Version two, with a different post processing; the sky, clouds, and distant mountains were all separately fine tuned with the Lightroom adjustment brush. The foreground was sharpened with Topaz Detail.

Paul - thanks. I only had the one lens on the camera, and shot while we were driving. The wider angle shots didn't come out as well, imo, when shot through the front window.
I do need to get a wider angle lens for time like these when I can't shoot multiframe panos.

K. Thanks. I shot this through the car window as we moved along at about 75 mph.
Now that I am home, I might reprocess this one a bit more. I applied a graduated filter in post to this, but the sky certainly could use more work. It was an extremely bright day, and we are in the high desert here, above 4000 ft.

Jim, I like that kind of images very much, the landscape and sky & clouds are exciting and I think the image itself would win a much if you would apply graduate (and polariser) filter to darken and saturate the sky.

Actually I like these kind of images myself, more so the ones that are off the beaten path where you can get out of the car and shoot down close to the pavement or gravel road. Thanks to wide angle lenses......... 17 mm isn't wide so I don't have one. Paul

db - thanks. I posted this after a long day in the car, with all the scenery looking about the same. I posted this primarily for those who have never seen this part of the country. The great expanse of desert is certainly unique for lot of people.

Not so unexciting, Jim: I like the image with its sky (and puffy clouds), the long straight road and a landscape so typical for that part of America. ~ db.
