This is Lola, a Chihuahua about 4-5 years old. She was one of about 30 dogs and cats owned by a well-meaning older woman who finally become too ill to care for them. Thanks in part to the woman's doctor, all of the animals were turned over to a rescue organization where they were examined and brought up to date with all their medicals and then put up for adoption. Except for missing her lower front teeth, Lola was in good health, just a little under weight. But, because she was one of a large group of animals cared for by a single person, she apparently didn't have much human interaction and thus was very shy and skittish. Over the past few months though, since she came to live with us, she has slowly begun to trust us and now even enjoys getting up on the couch and watching TV with us. But she still has to jump down every so often and go check on her bed to make sure that one of our other dogs hasn't tried to claim it.
