I think you were probably the only one the see the original as your first comment (which I think you may have deleted) was made very shortly after posting and very shortly before I changed it. I wasn't entirely happy with the original but got it sort of close and posted it anyway, but when I saw it against the dark background here, I could tell it hadn't worked. However, I really liked some of the textures and most of the composition so I started trying some more extreme processing to emphasis the textures and eventually arrived at this. I have no idea of the process that led to it as there were many and varied. But I liked the results enough to replace the original, and I do find something in the mix of colour that I quite like (are we allowed to like our own images, lol!). It's given me some ideas for future processing too, so it's especially nice to get some positive feedback on it. I really appreciate you taking the time to pass on the comment.
