It's funny Tom mentions Cezanne. We have a framed Cezanne poster in our home and for some reason this is exactly what came to mind when viewing this. Not that it looks anything like this, but perhaps it is, like Tom said, the tilt that does it?
Nice composition, Paul. I usually wouldn't put bright colors in the background, but the yellow of the lemons and pears works really well here.
