Fabulous, I love these fiery threads of clouds

Thanks Jim! The foreground is processed to look as realistic as possible. The dynamic range of the scene exceeded the dynamic range of the camera, so the foreground was underexposed and very dark. As always, this was shot in RAW-mode, which allowed me to "develop" the photo a second time, getting the foreground to look closer to what I experienced when taking the photo.

By the way, the crop is rapeseed aka canola. Probably should have been harvested by now, but August has been very wet this year (after a very dry June and July). Farmers are frustrated. I don't know if rapeseed is as sensitive to the weather at harvest time as other popular crops such as grains, but one problem has been that the ground has been too wet to support the combine harvesters (they'd sink into the ground and get stuck).

I agree with the crowd. This is really beautiful. Did you desaturate the foreground, or was it actually like that? Either way, the image is fantastic. Jim H.

Thank you Mary-Anne!

I think this lost some by being too small, so I have uploaded a bigger version. Please view at "original" size.

Thank you guys! I was driving when the sky suddenly came on fire. Had to stop the car the first and best place and hurry to take a picture. The electric mast and powerlines bothered me at first, but then I figured I'd have to make it work somehow, because I knew there wouldn't be time to go somewhere else, so I tried to use it to my advantage. Sure enough, a few minutes later the drama was greatly reduced:http://www.pbase.com/olafdk/image/127908299
