An interesting crystal Rob. I like this photo better than the other one, as it better depicts the three dimensionality of the embedded bird's head, as well as the crystal itself.
Thanks Kelly and Shu. This is a 'solid' heavy block of glass and the eagle head is three dimensional internally etched?
I have two of these with a different character in each of them. I bought them as 'props' with the challenges in mind. I really wanted a clear glass prism to produce a spectral image.
It puzzled me how this internal etching was achieved.... I can only imagine a type of 'lost wax' casting process was used? There is no sign of any residue internally, no sign of a join mark... it seems 'impossible'.. so I really don't know how it was produced.
I was hoping a good spectral pattern could be achieved and I played with different light sources but was too lazy to actually make a 'point' light source... lol
~ Regards Bob
p.s. just had another thought, perhaps it is a pre-cast scull from glass with a higher softening temperature.... (not melting point because glass is actually a 'super-cooled liquid' and so is considered already 'melted').... inserted in a mould?
This is most curious Bob. It looks like a three dimensional etching on the inside of a solid chunk of glass (or is it polymer)... begging the question, if in fact I'm reading this correctly, how'd they do that!?
Love the interplay of light on the insides of this block of glass.
