Twice a year, once in February and once in October the sun sets behind downtown Atlanta as seen from the top of Stone Mountain. Twice a year many of the members of an Atlanta Flickr group hike to the top of the mountain to take pictures.
Really fantastic shot, Pops. I can imagine that the opportunity to capture a clear sun with dramatic clouds like this is not alwais as good as that time every half year. BTW after covering the bottom part of the image with the explorer window, I second the idea to crop it to a 16 to 9 panorama. -Gerald
The hike to the top was well worth it. Beautiful photo. I might crop some off the bottom of the shot, but would leave the clouds intact. They are spectacular.
You know those shots were the photog was trying to simulate this look in a still life, using stapler refills? Well this is the real deal! and well worth the photographic pilgrimage. Great shot!
I do though agree with Bruce about cropping off half of the dark bottom portion. Which easily lends to a 16x9 aspect ratio and you get to keep all of the sky ;)
