Thanks Victor. I'm pretty sure you're correct in thinking the spider didn't produce the fibre. It does look as though it's doing something with it though, so I thought a little photographic licence was in order for the title. I don't know what sort of plant it is.
What you see in the photo is just a portion of one of the flowers. It's a succulent of some type that I found growing beside the road close to my home. I have posted another view in Pending that gives a better view of the flowers. Regards, Michael

Beautiful picture. Just to nitpick a bit, though, I don't believe lynx spiders are that big on weaving. They are active hunters, capturing their prey with their legs -- not with webs. That thread is surely unrelated to the spider. What kind of plant is that, by the way?
