In the Spring of 2012, I spent several days photographing prairie chickens near Canadian, Texas (60 miles east-northeast of Amarillo). I also happened upon a flock of wild turkeys in the small community of Lipscomb, Texas. I was distressed by the rapid destruction of habitat in this area due to extensive oil and gas drilling. Prairie chickens are especially venerable because they can not live in captivity and will not breed anywhere but on their established lek.
