April is the peak season for birds migrating from South America and the Yucatan. After crossing the Gulf of Mexico, the birds that were strong enough to have made it are totally exhausted and normally spend some time in the southern most part of Texas eating and resting up for their continued flight north. This "fall out" lasts until a favorable southerly wind develops, at which time the birds continue there trek northward. These photographs were taken at the Convention Center and along the Gulf beaches of South Padre Island during the third week in April 2010.
