In November 2019 I spend a week photographing eagles in the Chilkat Bald Eagle Refuge near Haines, Alaska. The refuge is on Indian land approximately 15-miles north-west of Haines along the Chilkat River. The weather was unseasonably warm for November with temperatures in the mid-forties. The salmon run was larger than usual which eliminated the normal interaction between eagles fighting over the same fish. Despite considerable wind, rain and fog, the opportunity to photograph these magnificent birds made the trip well worthwhile.
My favorite is the standoff between the Magpie and the Eagle. The first shot reminds me of my condition when doing the annual bird counts. My second favorite is the closeup of the head, wow, the blood on the bill. All amazing. Grace
