The Lemon Lady

Porto, Portugal

I had the priviledge to meet this old gentle lady. Even though we did not speak the same tongue, we spoke the same language. We smiled and made signs, had our own special conversations. We had that special connection. This photograph means more to me than what is shown here.

Christine, Those "conversations" that we have with others who don't speak our language, or in your case, any of your languages are truly special. Words sometimes get in the way. Smiles and eyes and expressions sometimes say more. Wonderful image and wonderful thoughts you have put down in words.

Those things gathered around me.Not paying attention anymore.Just hanging about as a crowd without eyes and foreign voices. So many times I have wondered about this strange place. If we are fruit overripening on a windowsill.Past our stay in this corner.Like a souvenir with faded color. And yet so much...if only the doors of those ears would open.

Excellent portrait.Using the usual terms to evaluate a picture, you did very well, in composition, light, color and subject.I know this scene , I know the place where you shot this portrait.I dare say I know your idea behind this portrait.Elsewhere I´ll discuss this at length, but here let me say the "very typical" very seldom refect the mood of a place. The old woman, doing this business in market, you could find in spain, greece, west of France, even in Romania I saw <something alike.Nothing to do with the quality, ezcellent or with your flair.I was some times in your country, I saw some indians. Very typical, maybe, but this does not show canadian mood. But Rocky and its glaciers, to me are very much canadian.
Regards and congratulations, you´re very good with a camera. Friendly discussions are very good for both of us.
