Cut new potatoes into bite-sized pieces if large and boil until just tender. Drain and place in a casserole dish.
Similarly, boil florets of broccoli for 5 minutes, drain and add to the potatoes. Cut cooked ham into bite-sized chunks
and add these to the casserole. Make a cheese sauce as follows: melt a good knob of butter in a saucepan, and add 2 Tbs
plain flour. Mix well and cook gently for a few minutes, then gradually add whole milk, stirring all the while over a
gentle heat until the mixture simmers and thickens. Season with a little salt and plenty of freshly ground black pepper,
then add a couple of handfuls of grated sharp cheddar, stirring until melted and the sauce is smooth. Pour over the ham
and vegetables, sprinkle the top with a little more grated cheddar and bake in a 180°C oven for 25-30 minutes,
until bubbling and the top is golden. Serve with a mixed salad.
