McCaig’s Tower, built from granite from the shores of Loch Etive by John Stuart McCaig, a wealthy banker, between 1897 and his death in 1902.
It was intended to be a lasting monument to his family and was to include a museum and art gallery. By the time of his death, only the outer walls
had been completed. It is now a public garden and dominates the skyline at Oban.
