The easternmost of the three medieval fortresses of North Cyprus, built by the Lusignans. A castle existed here since Byzantine times,
and it was here that Richard the Lionheart forced his adversary Byzantine Governor Isaac Komnenos to capitulate in 1191. Much of the fortress
was destroyed by the Venetians in the 16th century, but the walls survived.
