Kyrenia – or Girne, to give it its Turkish name, noted for its historic harbour and castle. There is evidence indicating that Kyrenia has been inhabited
since about 5000-3000 BC, though it is traditionally thought to have been founded by the Achaeans (one of the four major tribes of Classical Greece),
from the Peloponnese, after the Trojan War, around the 13th or 12th century BC.
