This Gothic castle was built around 1500 by Leonhard of Völs (born 1458), renovating an old 13th century castle.
He was the administrator of the salt mines of Hall in Tirol, a very well paid position.
He was married three times to wealthy noblewomen, which enabled him to spend large quantities of money on expanding his castle.
