Known also as the Resurrection Church of Our Saviour, and built on the spot where Tsar Alexander II
was assassinated on 1st March 1881. In 1883, his successor Alexander III launched a competition for
a permanent memorial. The foundation stone was laid in 1883, and the church was finally completed
during the reign of Nicolas II in 1907. The interior reopened in 1998 after 27 years of restoration,
and is decorated with more than 20 types of minerals. It is now a Museum of Mosaics.
