My Skyshed is in a field that is remote from the village but close enough to run a 802.11g link that bring a 2mb internet service to the shed. Weather safety is provided by a Clarity Boltwood sensor. Security by a burglar alarm on the door and a magnetic lock on the roll off roof that is released by the roof opener. In addition, I have a IP Videocam ( so I can check that the roof is really closed or see if the telescope is pointing at the ground..) and lastly, a IP power switch ( 4 ports) so I can reboot the computer if it gets hung and turn on / off the 12 v central supply.
