Just north of Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast we visited the shipwreck of the S.S. Dicky.
The Dicky had been on voyage from Rockhampton to Brisbane in 1893 when severe weather
prevented her from rounding Caloundra Head. To avoid a reef she was steered toward the shore
by Captain John Summers Beattie. No lives were lost. All efforts to refloat the Dicky failed
and she remains resting today at Dicky Beach, named after the wreck.
