7th February 2009 ("Black Saturday") - fires devastated parts of Victoria, claiming lives and property including Barreges Pyreneans.
Vivienne and David James of St Andrews, near Kinglake in Victoria, lost so much: their home and possessions, beloved Pyrenean Mountain Dogs and other animals.
Several weeks after the fires we braved ourselves for our first visit. It was a sobering drive out towards Kinglake. Road blocks were in place, so we
were met and 'escorted' by Vivienne James of Barreges Pyreneans. Rains had washed ash onto their road/driveway creating a thick sludge.
I took random photos of the devastated landscape, house and stable ruins, rubble, furniture and a variety of other things.
It was, and still is, difficult to absorb what had happened on the 7th February 2009. For slideshow click top right.
