Wow! Sometimes you end up in the right place at the right time! Last night (8/3/06) I was there and the event was a live show by Watermelon Slim and the Workers. What a great show! A southern-style, blue-collar approach to the blues that will put a smile on your face and have your screaming for more! The Workers can definitely work it!
Watermelon Slim (Bill Homans) is a truck driving, watermelon farming, blues artist with a masters degree in History. He played his first paying gig at the age of 18. He taught himself to play left-handed backwards slide guitar while in a Army hospital in Vietnam. He also plays a mean harp and can definitely sing the blues. Now in his mid 50's, he was recently nominated for Best New Artist Debut at the 2005 WC Handy Awards. Better late than never... you betcha!
I bought this CD at the show and listend to it on the way home. It is great and will bring back images of that live show with each listen! Get yourself a copy, pour a cold one, and crank it up. Bet you like it.
