The Grassy Knoll

Dallas, Texas

Most of you are probably not old enough to remember the JFK Assassination or maybe you weren't even born yet.
There have always been rumors of a second shooter from the grassy knoll. Until I visited the site, I didn't understand what that meant. The grassy knoll is actually what I would call an embankment and at the top is a fence.
This shot was taken from the exact spot where it is believed a second shooter could have been.
As you can see, it has a clear view of the motorcade (car in this scene is where the motorcade would have been).
What I never knew is that on the day of the assassination, right after the shots were fired, the secret service and police officers all ran toward this grassy knoll. They all thought that's where the shots came from.
Witnesses reported seeing a flash from this spot.
I found a HD restored version of the Zapruder film and watched it several times. You can see JFK's head snap backwards from the second shot which would indicate a shot from the front.
It's all very interesting to me as I was a college student at the time and many of us were skeptical of the lone shooter theory from the get go.
In any case, this is a fascinating tour for those of us old enough to remember this day.
FYI: The position where Abraham Zapruder was standing in the previous photo is just beyond the end of this fence at the upper left.

Good documentary photography. I was just a baby but have always wondered about what is factual, what is unknown, and what is known but not disclosed.

I read " The Death of a President " from beginning to end. The grassy knoll theory has been mentioned often....
My family were in the kitchen getting ready for school when we heard the news on the radio. I remember how people were shocked into silence and sadness. Caroline has been Ambassador here in Australia the past two years.

Interesting information. A tragic event that echoed around the world (before I was in the States).
