Sculpture in the Borromeo Palace

Lake Maggiore, Italy

The most inventive part of the palace, is found underground: six natural grottos decorated with dark and light-coloured pebbles and shells in designs reflecting nautical themes.
They were created as a place for the family to escape the summer heat. Not sure why it was necessary to have sculptures down there!
