1n 1905, tobacco millionaire, Abbot Kinney, founded Venice,California as a seaside resort town. His vision was to make it like its namesake in Italy. He dug several miles of canals and built a business street with Venetian architecture. The original canals were almost all paved over in 1928. There is just a small section of canals left in what is now the historic district. This is one of those canals. The canals are lined with homes and there are several footbridges over each one.
