Upstairs at the Mercato Centrale

Florence, Italy

This upper level of Florence's indoor Mercato Centrale at San Lorenzo is a great place to stop for lunch and enjoy this beautiful building designed by Giuseppe Mengoni, who also designed the Galleria Vittoria Emanuele II. Built from 1870-74, it has glass and cast iron all around. This floor has 12 specialty artisan stalls offering home made items. You can see how bread is made or artisan gelato etc. There is even a cooking school here.
