This Basilica is a fine example of Byzantine Architecture. Unfortunately, half of it is currently covered up for refurbishment. That seems to be the norm this year in Italy.

I think anytime you go there you will find some work going on. When I was here a few years ago, the left side of the Basilica was covered with scaffolding.V.
