This view shows the heigth of the stern as seen from below.
The figures wrap around the sides of the ship.
Just above can be seen a red disk which was part of the lookout on the stern for rocks.

The "red disk" is actually the mizzen-top, a small platform at the top of the lower mizzen mast. It was used as a staging-post for the men who handled the sails and rigging, and sharp-shooters could be placed there in combat. Keeping a look-out for rocks is a good idea in principle but better done at the other end of the ship I would think, from the foretop. Actually I think the fore-topmast head would be an even better place. Nice shot though. I wish I'd had an ultrawide available when I was in the museum.
