While we were in Rome in October 2017, the Scuderie del Quirinale hosted a superb exhibition of Picasso paintings
"1915-1925: From Cubism to Classicism"
Once a carriaage house and stable for the Palazzo del Quirinale,
the Scuderie has been beutifully renovated as an exhibition space for special exhibits.
Many of Picasso's most famous works were shown in this special exhibit at the Scuderie.
Picasso's "Pipes of Pan" shown here, is one of a number of his paitings from his "classical period" of the 1920's
when he was married to Olga Kokloova.
In ancient mythology, Pan was the god of the wilderness, patron of shepherds and sheep, as well as a symbol of fertility and love.
In this painting, he is shown playing his reed pipes, perhaps waiting to lure a beautful nymph.
