This Naxian sphinx-like figure stood on top of an Ionic column near the Temple of Apollo in the Upper Sanctuary at Delphi.
She has the face of a woman, a bird like chest and a lower body of a lion.
The figure, how housed in the museum at Delphi, dates from about 500 BCE.
It was displayed in Delphi to show the wealth and importance of Naxos to visitors who came to Delphi.
