This memorial sculpture of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette of Austria is located to the right of the altar area in St. Denis, near the chevet of Abbot Suger.
The praying statues were commissioned by Louis XVIII when the ashes of the King and Queen were brought to St. Denis.
The bodies of the beheaded King Louis XVI, his wife Marie Antoinette and his sister Madame Élisabeth were not initially buried in Saint-Denis,
but rather in the churchyard of the Madeleine, where they were covered with quicklime.
Their actual graves are now located in the crypt below the altar area of St. Denis, seen in the next picture.
