In 1973-1979 the University of Helsinki together with the park department of Helsinki City made an experiment with rhodos producing 499 different crossbreedings.
The goal was to produce colorful rhodos which would endure the Finnish climate. From the crossbreeded plants the best were chosen to be used in Finland.
