The Birch Is Budding..

In Finnish we call the first tiny leaves of birches "the ears of a mouse"! :) -
the leaves of other trees won't cause similar happy comments! When the birches are
budding, we know that the spring has finally come!

Are there any corresponding expressions in other languages - Swedish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, or any other languages? I'd be interested to know!
