3/2017 Letter from Leeba
FAMILY LETTER FOR 2016
Dear family and friends,
Last year I was pondering what I was to pursue with the years I had left, and then one night I had a dream and woke up with a familiar Scripture running through my mind…”Teach me to number my days that I may apply my heart to wisdom.” It spoke strongly to me, but I still am not sure all that it means for me… As I have immersed myself in a study of Proverbs these past months, I have been struck by what God considers wise and foolish… I want to follow the wisdom that comes from Christ “in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Col. 2:3)… It is a daily walk of faith as there are many pulls…
A year full of so many consequential things for the Curlins…difficult for a loquacious one to make brief, but I will try.
Our children first…Marvi was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer in July and was able to receive excellent treatment at the University of Chicago. After radiation and chemo, rest for healing and then surgery, she was given the news that there did not appear to be any traceable signs of cancer…To the many who prayed for her, thank you. We are so grateful to the Lord for this mercy to all of us, and Marvi felt surrounded by God’s love and presence in amazing ways as she went through this process and still continues to trust Him for her life now and in the future. Many of you followed her on Caring Bridge. She still periodically writes her thoughts so if you are interested, you can go to caringbridge.org Marvi Gunn and read some of her continued faith journey in trusting the God she loves and serves. Their 5 children continue their education pursuits in Virginia, Illinois, and Panama.
Not in birth order…Caleb has continued his Marmilu Farm operation amidst great difficulty and testing at times…learning and refining what he does. I have been impressed in visible ways as to the hard work that is entailed in farming. One must love the outdoors, sweating and dirt, dealing with set backs, losing sleep and animals, and on and on it goes. Betsy hangs in there supporting him while she home schools the 4 girls who love farm life and their father (their Mom too) in such demonstrative ways. If you want some non GMO meats, you won’t be disappointed with their product. You can google Marmilu Farms and stay updated. They spent 3 months living with us in the fall while they awaited the renovation of a house they bought in Humboldt along with farm property.
Micah and Dan continue their Lindquist Hospitality House with family and others coming and going, feeding the troops and going to the many games of JD (Marvi’s and Dan’s son who attends school in Wheaton) along with tennis for Emme and soccer for Sophie with Stephen in tow. After attending Daniel’s graduation last May at Taylor University, we anticipated his engagement to Jordan Anderson, the news of which we received last month, so our first grandson will be marrying on Labor Day weekend in Maryland…They are a wonderful match! Josiah continues at Taylor as a Junior.
David and Mia received the surprising news that they were headed to Hawaii for the Army. He and family arrived there before Christmas and are adjusting to a very different culture than North Carolina. He is a chaplain working with a task force to evaluate effective Chaplain ministry in the Army. The public school there has been jolting in many respects such as having to endure continuous profanity by students and teachers, and due to other factors, three of them have opted for home schooling for now. Paschal is taking on line junior college courses. We hope to visit them one of these days.
John Reid continues in Bonds sales and Laura and their three are still in Germantown an hour and a half away so we enjoy some meals and visits with their family, along with a game here and there of Reid’s LaCrosse and football ventures. Laura has begun to help my niece Clare with her organizational
