We each caught the man in a different pose showing change and movement, but the communist symbol and Chinese characters remain a constant. I think that, through our images, we have shown the dichotomy of contemporary Chinese society, change vs. constancy.
Thanks Phil for your comment. All of our four images show that we can shoot the same subject yet express different views and styles. Our examples teach us that in photography, it really is not the subject that matters, but how we see it and how we choose to express the way the subject affects us that's meaningful.
This guy was the perfect subject -- and you caught his move perfectly as well, layering him between the Chinese characters and the Communist symbol. It is interesting to compare how all three of us shot this same situation. See mine athttp://www.pbase.com/image/86307886, Tim's athttp://www.pbase.com/mityam/image/87643583, and Iris's athttp://www.pbase.com/irislm/image/94989017 (I have not seen Chor's.) Each of us incorporates all three layers, but by shooting a different distances and at different moments, we each tell a different story.
