The Merlion is a mythical half-fish-half-lion creature, which is now an icon synonymous with tourism in Singapore. Given that there were many tourists around and that the lighting was rather flat, for me, it was probably one of the hardest subjects to photograph. At times when the wind blew hard, some tourists standing near enough would get drenched. They made interesting photographs, but unfortunately I focused too near and did not include enough of the Merlion for context. I finally settled on this because I think I captured the delight that these women felt to have their picture taken at this famous landmark, and for the tension between the water jet and the women.
