A Birthday Wish

My niece, on her second birthday. Ooops ....! I wonder who accidentally squashed the cake on the left!

Beautiful. So warm. So innocent. Perfect.

Birthdays are such signs of hope - (especially for the young) and the closed eyes here make this image sing for me. She is envisioning her future - because of your image I find myself wishing, too, for a good future for this person I have never met, but you have made me care for.

I think the position of the candle light and the eyes made this image a striking one. It pulls your attention right in there, and kind of forcing you to make a wish with her as well. Very nice!

What a brilliant, warm image, Celia. So rich in abstraction created the interplay of light and shadow, which frames the human value of innocence. I love the way the candles point directly to her closed eyes, and the squashed cake even adds an incongruous touch. All three principles are working here for you. This is a departure for you -- an extremely intimate image involving human feelings, yet you only reveal what is absolutely necessary, and leave the rest to our imaginations.
