Village of White & Blue

Sidi Bou Said is usually described as the village with white houses and blue doors, which is entirely true. The buildings are often boxy and painted white. Windows, doors and iron grills are painted blue. The wealthy French who discovered this quaint little village in the early 1900s loved it so much that they went to great lengths to preserve the town's character. In 1912, a French Banker by the name of Baron Rodolphe d'Erlanger, proposed a bylaw to forbid any other colour schemes!
