"Jackie Chan!"

I seemed to be an endless fascination for Tunisians everywhere I went. Orientals were a rare sight in Tunisia and guessing my nationality would often become a fun game for them. Most of the time, they would guess wrong. Being labelled "Japanese" every where I went was beginning to get annoying for me, a Malaysian Chinese. But today, I was "Jackie Chan!" . A Tunisian man, excitedly hollers out the name of a famous male Hong Kong Movie star when he catches a glimpse of me. Nevermind that I am a woman. At least I am a hero and a star today! Beats being a Japanese tourist anytime!

Very amusing sociological reaction, Celia. Your frame within a frame, the backlighting, the moment of time you have stopped here, all add up to a triumphant moment and a triumphant, unforgettable image. It is wonderful when you can draw spontaneous gestures from your subjects (I've drawn a few extended fingers in my time) that establish a bond with the viewer. This one does just that. And my friend Tim got this reception last month when were traveling through Laos (http://www.pbase.com/mityam/image/40376786 )
