The Roman Cillium Landscape

There is something just so strange about this image - The cacti are all twisted and mangled, the clouds so heavy and ominous, an ancient Roman aquaduct lies in the distance signifying the presence of civilization yet is hundereds of years old, and the whole place is enveloped by the strangest lighting and combination of colours. It is a very unsettling image, and perhaps rightly so. Kasserine is home to the Cillium Roman ruins and also a battleground where 1,000 Americans lost their lives to Germans in WWII. My guide book states Kasserine as a depressing place with a "periodic stench of chlorine" from an "ugly American-aided cellulose factory". This image is uncomfortable to look at, but yet it engages you with its strange, surreal and depressing beauty.
