Horsetail Falls - Yosemite
by Ron Crain

Is this pink enough?

The attempt was to catch the falls as Galen Rowell did but the falls weren't flowing enough and/or the time of the month wasn't perfect.

Only in February and only with the right circumstances, the setting sun will ignite the falls from the side and the falls will appear to be on fire.

The best shot yet of this can be seen here: http://mountainlight.com/gallery.yosemite/images.html you may have to click on "page 2" and then the thumbnail.

Really fine lighting.

Beautiful composition. I also like the differences in texture and colour in the sunlit areas and shadows. Janet

No, I don't think it was a different time of day, but different exposure settings and possibly lens filters. Also water flow volume was very different.

Another nice shot. I agree with September on the difference between your image and Rolen's, but that's not a bad thing.

Only the trees give a clue to the scale.

Very pretty. In comparing your shot to his shot, his looks like it was later in the day even... Beautiful capture.
