something simple so far

exposure adjustment and raw to tiff via raw shooter essentials 2005
removed vignetting using ImagesPlus and a blue-sky flat
hand-painted a mask for sharpening the contrail
added 0.5% noise to reduce JPG sky blotches
50% crop and rotate using Photoshop

I agree the plane should probably only be two-thirds of the way across, but I originally tried to get as much contrail as possible, so the plane was already close to the edge and flying more straight across. After looking at the image on the computer, the plane was clear enough that I decided to crop away 50 percent of the image to enlarge it for the 600px size, here, and put the cropbox as close to the edge as possible, but the change rotation of the cropbox to get the 1:2 bisection of each edge took away some of the blue sky on the left.

I can't resist taking these shots myself Steve ;-)

The perceived wisdom is to leave a little more room for the plane to fly into in your composition.
