My friend Kirk (www.pbase.com/kekpix/) came to visit and we decided on a whim to go camping in Telegraph Cove on Vancouver Island. We were in the info centre just prowling around when a guy named Jim Powell came in to show his amazing photographs of the wildlife in the area. Jim was kind enough to invite us out on his boat at 3:30am the next day. These images are only a fraction of what we saw during the nine hour trip at sea. It was an incredible day and Jim is an incredible guy. I feel very lucky and am really glad to have met him. If you ever get a chance to visit Vancouver Island, put Telegraph Cove on your list of things to do. It's about a five and a half hour drive from Victoria -- an hour north of Campbell River.
Most of these images were taken with my new (to me) Nikkor 300mm f4 manual focus lens circa 1978 on a D200 body.
