Continuing on towards Waimea Canyon, we came to the Hawaii Trading Post where
they have a large collection of these Ni'ihau shell leis. They are made of
thousands of tiny shells collected by women on Ni'ihau, and an ornate lei may
take several years to complete. They sell for thousands of dollars, which is
not unreasonable, considering the hours of labor involved.
