Kapuzbasi Waterfalls

I heard there were some waterfall between Adana and Cappadocia in the Aladag mountains. I located the falls on a couple of maps, so thought we could reach them by going over the mountains on some of the back roads. Well, we had a nice adventure. We had to back track once, and another time we crossed the beautiful Goksu River, after which I expected to cross the Zamanti River. I was excited when we came to the second river, when Bob pointed out a rock formation we had already seen--we had gone in a circle. At this time, we decided to head on up to Cappadocia. As we followed the signs to Mansurlu, I was still hoping to see a sign for the waterfalls, which was south of Mansurlu on my maps. However we reached Mansurlu with no signs for the falls, and then got stuck on a freshly black-topped road that left tar all over my car. We headed on to Yahyali (you don't travel by highway numbers in Turkey--you just follow signs that point you to the next town in your direction). We finally hit paved roads and came to a large fork in the road, and there was our sign--Kapuzbasi Falls 40 kilometers away! We still had a few hours of daylight, so we followed the sign. We drove through a deep rock gorge along the muddy Zamanti River (it was probably a beautiful river at one time, but construction has muddied it up). We came to a small fall cascading out of the rocks along the way. We continued our journey, where the road jogged to the right and we left the Zamanti for a smaller stream. Suddenly a beautiful series of waterfalls lay before us. We took the car up to a deserted car park, obviously a center of activity in the summer months. There are 7 waterfalls at Kapuzbasi. The fantastic thing is they pour straight out of a solid rock face from underground rivers. The flow was mild compared to photos I saw from earlier in the year, but we still had to yell to each other to be understood above the roar. We walked around for a while, ate a sandwich which we shared with a couple of cats, and talked to a couple of Jandarma (military police) that stopped by the falls and could speak some English. Then we headed on to Cappadocia to enjoy the rest of our 3-day weekend.
