Early morning at the 30km viewpoint. One male Great Hornbill came down from the larger fig tree on the other side of the road to the smaller fig tree just to the left of the viewpoint. He ate some figs and then did something perculiar. Grabbing some small branches he just throw himself out in the air and hanged there dangling for a while. First I thought it was a fig which didn't come loose but when examining the pictures I saw he had a firm "bite" on some branches. After dangling the for a good 15 seconds he let go and went down i the valley.
I haven't been around hornbills too much so I don't know if this is a common behaviour or not. During the days we spent at Khao Yai we saw around 40 Great Hornbills coming down from the larger fig tree down to this smaller fig tree. No other hornbill did something like this. Maybe it's a young bird who likes playing?
