It's hard to grasp the scale of this formation from this picture.
Shiprock rises nearly 1,800 feet above the desert plain, a height over 3 times taller than the Washington Monument.
Geology: Shiprock is the remains of the core of a volcano, all other parts of the volcano
have been eroded away by wind and water.
