Juvenile California Condor

A shot from yesterdays visit to the Pinnacles National Monument.

A rare sighting of this largest land bird in North America.

There was to a release of a Juvenile California Condor on this day.
Hard to say if this was that bird which was released.

Not the prettiest bird to view;-)

I think the tag mentioned below might be a transmitter.

Great shot! You must have been very close to get that with a 200mm.
No, that condor wasn't released that day - I was at the release event,
and none of the birds figured out how to get out of the cage. This NPS
website tells the story:

http://www.nps.gov/pinn/naturescience/updates.htm

My condor pictures from that day are not nearly as impressive - we saw
(from a half-mile away) a few previously-released birds hanging around
the release pen:

Wonderful. Very lucky to see one of these guys as we almost lost them. Great effort undertaken to save them. As I recall, they captured all the ones in the wilds to save, breed and then release them.
