Just looking

I went to the camera store today to look at the D200. Definately better build quality than the D100/D70. The store model never seemed to produce a sharp photo. I think I see purple fringing on the Canon label. Hey, and the exif loaded the iso in the right place! Yeah Nikon! I didn't have any exposure comp on until I loaded this on pbase.

I won't be buying one for a long time. The salesman said they have 400 people on the waiting list.

Nikon D200 ,Nikkor 180mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF
1/60s f/2.8 at 180.0mm iso800 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Mark - it's a funny old (new) machine in that out the box default settings, images need more sharpening than a D70's. Certainly been my experiance though I tend to have little to zero sharpening by default, prefering to sharpen in Photoshop. I'm also informed that the the D2X and D200's will show up cheap glass and poor technique a lot quicker than such as D2H and D70. Can't say as I've really noticed though hope I don't have any cheap glass!!

Personally I'm very happy and to date has served very well. Damn - I need to get posting again here as have a backlog of images. Currently have a computer that runs like a dog with 2 legs and suspect it to be pulled down with all sorts of crap. Factor in a hard disk that windows warns of iminent failure every time it boots up :(( I've a new hard disk sat on the kitchen table waiting for a rainy day and for me to reload windows and required progs onto new disk. Most unusually we don't get rainy days anymore!

Anyways - I'm pleased with IQ out of the D200. Looking at the model you tested the fringing around the 'Canon' word is very bad. On a lighter side I see they had a shop full of Canon's they were unable to shift {hehe}! 400 on the waiting list .... sheesh, that is a wait? I wandered into my local camera shop in York on another matter and wandered out with a D200. They had a D200 'kit' in the window and when I mentioned I want a body only they magiced one up out the basement!

Stay away from the dark side Mark....

For over 20 years in the film days I would touch only Nikons (I still have at least 5 or 6 bodies and a bag full of manual lenses) but now that digital is here I switched to Canon, I had to, they are just better. I started with the D30 and receintly swallowed hard and bought the 5D. It's awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! 400 people?! That's gonna be some wait! I think I see the purple fringing too...interesting. I'm working on making a much smaller leap...300D to a 350D. I need a second body for a couple weddings I'm doing this fall. Wish I could swing the 20D, but not yet. It is fun to dream though!

I broke down myself and bought another camera recently. A film camera but this one looks nice.

I am in between. Love the idea of the D200 but Nikon do not have a lens in the 24-105 range that is shipped with the 5D...

At least you're photographing the right camera!!

Who put that cheapo lens on the 5D? It deserves an L zoom for display...

I think my next purchase will be a lens, then maybe another lens! They seem to cost as much as a camera!

Wow you're right check out that fringing! First I thought this was your new 'baby!'

I won't go look at a D200 for this very reason! I know I don't NEED one, but if I hold it, I will want one. That 5D looks kinda nice too!
