So why are all these books sideways? So the carpetting company can put a brace through the shelf supports, lift them up full of books, move them, tear up the old carpet, put in the new one and then move the shelves back. We're recarpetting four floors without removing any of the books from the building.

I used to think that a great way to spend a weekend was to wander the stacks and read stuff at whim....now I get that same joy at Border's...interesting photo.

Handheld, Jeff. At 24mm it's not too hard. Natural light behind me and coming across the aisles, flourescent overhead. I shot in Nikon's RAW mode and set the gray point in Nikon Capture. I didn't turn these down, but I have turned some down and all have to be turned back up. We lowered the shelves before turning the books down.

Cool shot - but what a horrible job to have to recarpet!!!

That's a fascinating process, and this is a really neat picture!

Interesting photo, did you take this hand held? if so well done.Jeez that camera is looking good, the detail and lighting are superb for where it is taken!

That is a creative solution, and you've made quite a nice "abstract" here, Mark.

Very interesting. Were you the one who had to go and turn all the books sideways? Because that would suck. When the carpet is done, do they have to be turned back to rideside up? I would just leave them the way they are.

Great shot and interesting story. I can't even imagine the work that must have been. Do they ever drop them?

Now this is cool. Nice red books, and what a different image. I like it!

An interesting process, but it sure makes a fascinating composition!! I adore all the strong reds on the left hand side. Excellent perspective shot.
